About POW
Why can’t you make truly great coffee at home?
Making truly great coffee at home is hard. Pods and capsules are convenient, but they don’t give you truly great coffee. Stepping up to an automatic bean-to-cup machine helps, but with supermarket beans it’s still hard to get everything out of them. And yeah, then there are those buttons. Grind size, amount of ground coffee, amount of water, milk if you want it. A maze of choices that never quite gets you the result you wanted. Sound familiar? Good. Then you’re in the right place at POW Coffee. We can solve this together.
Personally, I love coffee, and I enjoy “messing around” with beans and grind size to get to the best espresso. I like buying interesting beans and experimenting with them. When friends are at my place, they usually love the coffee, but I’ve noticed the story behind it doesn’t really land with them. They just want good coffee. My story about notes of green strawberry, white almond, or fermented lychee did nothing for them.
And that’s not strange. This world of specialty coffee is inaccessible because of this kind of difficult jargon. On top of that, it often feels like there’s only one right way to do coffee. Exactly this water, exactly that temperature, exactly this grind. Saying something is “good enough” almost feels like an insult there. This purist fuss doesn’t make people feel invited to try something new, it just keeps them drinking supermarket coffee that’s “fine”.
One solution people came up with is talking about origins. Beans from Ethiopia, Colombia, and Brazil are available at every specialty coffee shop. Nobody has ever been able to tell me what a country tastes like, though. It doesn’t say anything, and it doesn’t actually help the average consumer. It’s less a solution to the accessibility problem than a new kind of abstraction.
That’s exactly why POW exists. No countries that say nothing, no complicated tasting notes you have to memorize. Just really good coffee in language you understand: Krachtig (‘Powerful’), Fruitig (‘Fruity’) & Rond (‘Round’). Three flavor families with something for everyone. POW Krachtig is like an espresso in Italy. Strong, punchy, and perfect for a strong espresso, cappuccino, or lungo. POW Fruitig is for the more adventurous drinkers. A fresher cup that makes your espresso or cappuccino taste genuinely different. And then there’s POW Rond, the easy-going all-rounder that’s just as good black as a lungo or with milk & sugar. 3 flavors, something for everyone. Order as a subscription, so you never run out. Prefer to order one-off? That works too. The choice is yours.
